Military Service

I joined the Vermont Army National Guard my junior year at EJHS, graduating Basic Training in 1985. After graduating high school in 1986, I completed the Army Combat Medic School at Fort Sam Houston while assigned to HHC/3-172 Infantry (Mountain)

After commissioning in 1991 as an Infantry 2LT from the University of Vermont’s Reserve Officer Training Corps, I continued to serve with 3-172 until assignment and graduation from the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course in 1992. Shortly upon return from Fort Benning, I interviewed and was selected for flight school, graduating from Fort Rucker, AL in 1994.

In 1996, I continued my military education attending the Aviation Officer’s Advanced Course, selected to command the Reconnaissance and Interdiction Detachment (RAID) supporting federal and local law enforcement agencies with the Counterdrug Program.  In October 1998, I assumed a simultaneous command of Det 1/E/1-111 Air Traffic Services, serving until the unit flag transferred to the State of Florida.

In January 2002, I activated in support of Operation Noble Eagle for homeland security as the commander of the RAID(+) supporting the US Border patrol operations between Canada, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York.

I deployed to Afghanistan with Task Force Mountain from Sept 2003 to Sept 2004 as an embedded trainer with the Afghan Army.  Immediately upon return, assumed command of the 86th Medical Company, which re-organized to C/3-126 in June 2005 and deployed September 2005 for Operation Iraqi Freedom until October 2006.

I’ve served as the Army Aviation Support Facility’s Maintenance Officer, Counterdrug Coordinator, USPFO’s Supervisory Logistics Manager, J4 Maintenance Assistance & Instruction Team (MAIT) Leader, J4’s Surface Maintenance Manager, Battalion Command of 86th Troop Command, AO/XO for the 124th Regional Training Institute, and the J3’s Mobilization Readiness Officer.

I’m a graduate of the Army Command & General Staff College’s Intermediate Level Education course, Colorado High Altitude Training School, Combat Aircrew Survival Instructors Course, Aviation Maintenance Manager’s Course, Medical Logistics Officer Course, Support Operations Course, and the Army Mountain Warfare School.
