Spring 2024 begins my fifth year as a beekeeper. I’d been curious about the hobby after listening to several Army buddies. but took the plunge after my father in law gave me his old set up. I purchased my first “nuc”, and become hooked

Unfortunately, this hive caught the attention of a local bear, who frequented the woods behind the house. Surprisingly, it survived after two visits – but didn’t survive the next winter.

Determined to keep the hobby, I purchased two colonies the following spring. I’ve had a few setbacks, but continue to work on learning, experimenting, and just having a little fun with a few thousand friends. I think (well…..hope) our yard will support up to eight hives. I’m pretty sure that’s plenty for me to manage over a summer
